Spring Retreat in Byron Bay

This delicious full day workshop combines cooking and craft to bring you a day showing you how to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life. Traditional cooking from scratch, with Kate Walsh from Real Food, as well as the traditional craft of basket weaving, with Ellie Beck, will bring a modern twist to these ancient skills, in the rustic beauty of the Hinterland's Newrybar. A long table lunch, combined with conversation and community connection will make this, the first, of our Gather events a special day to attend.

We’ll be gathering in the historic Newyrbar Hall situated in a little Byron Bay hinterland town also home to Harvest Restaurant, Newrybar Merchants and Luther & Co. (20 mins from Byron Bay/2 hours from Brisbane and a short plane ride from Sydney!).

What to expect
9:30 We’ll gather in the morning with tea and something sweet as we talk about the day.

9:45 You’ll spend the next three hours with Kate in the kitchen learning how to make your own kitchen staples from scratch.

12:45 We’ll all sit for a long table lunch with beautiful seasonal produce. 

1:300 You’ll join Ellie on the deck for a hands-on 3 hour workshop, Ellie will share her basket stitching processes, using raffia and foraged treasures, as well as talking about how to dye your materials and connect to your own visual voice. You'll go home with your own hand woven small basket. Extra raffia available for purchase on the day.

What you’ll leave with
A full belly, new friends and lots of skills! Kate’s book will be on sale on the day fo a special price of $25 and Ellie will have some of her beautiful weavings and more for sale.

Teachers
Kate Walsh is putting the spotlight on simple ways we can change the way we cook, shop and think about food. Whilst living the slow life on the North Coast of NSW, Kate runs Real Food Projects and is passionate about getting people back into the kitchen cooking from scratch. Author of ‘Real Food Projects - 30 skills and 49 recipes’, Kate will show you how to master everyday ferments like kombucha, kraut, water kefir and yoghurt, how to make your own nut butters, pickling basics and granola.

Ellie Beck teaches traditional hand crafts in a modern way. Using natural fibres & plant dyes to connect nature  & encourage people to slow down in our busy lives. In this hands-on 3 hour workshop, Ellie will share her basket stitching processes, using raffia and foraged treasures, as well as talking about how to dye your materials and connect to your own visual voice.
